Slow Dance: Story of Stroke, Love...
Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Bonnie Klein had a massive stroke. In the beginning, she was paralyzed and unable to breathe on her own. In the months and years to follow, as Klein regained her strength and "found her place" in the Canadian disability community, she kept a written journal, recording her questions, her fears, her frustrations. It also chronicled her renewed exploration of herself and her abilities.
Klein’s journal became the basis for a newly published book about her experiences. "Surviving the stroke has been the most challenging and creative project of my life," she says in the introduction to "Slow Dance: A Story of Stroke, Love and Disability." The following excerpts illustrate the strength of her inner spirit as she tackles this "project" to get on with her life.
