------------------------------------------------------------
We want
to introduce NobleMotion and their product line to
you.
WHEREEVER YOU WANT TO BE, GETTING FROM POINT A TO POINT X
IS NOT
ALWAYS EASY. NOBLEMOTION PRODUCES A CART, KNOW AS A
"ROLLATOR"
IN SWEDEN, DESIGNED FOR THE CHALLENGE.
Why
this product? It is a cart mounted on 4 TIRES, which means
that
you can walk naturally behind it. It includes a built in
seat,
which means that you can walk further without having to
worry
about a place to sit down. It includes a basket, which
lets
you “carry” items. Also this is useful in stores taking
the
place of a shopping cart. A tray is available on most models
so you
can easily transport cups, and plates. A basket extender
is also
available if you shop a great deal. Check out the
other
add-ons available that would help you in your particular situation.

ORGANIZATION
HIGHLIGHTS, By Steve Mallory
------------------------------------------------------------
We have risen sufficient funding to file for
non-profit status.
Our documentation and filing fee is with our
attorney right now
and will be filed for us in the near future. Thanks
to everybody
who has contributed in order to make this happen.
There is absolutely no doubt that our organization
is the largest
of it’s kind on the Internet and we will soon be
able to ensure
that we will always be there in the future for those
who need
us. I am able to read our records of Registration
for everybody
who joins this organization and I can easily say
that we are
being visited by at least 150 people, sometimes over
200, daily.
It is so nice to see that we are making our
resources available
to so many people that are dealing with stroke,
especially
those that are new to it and have no idea what is
happening
to them.

Welcome
to the August Edition of the Strokenetwork Newsletter.
If you
missed the opening article in the Newsletter, please
check
again. Noblemotion is making a special offer to our
readers.
This is a wonderful product. I have had mine for
three
years. It has definitely increased my independence!
Immediately
following is an is an article where David Ray
continues
his musings on winter in New Zealand. Also in the
letter
you will find a great note from Vicky Beard, who
experienced
miraculous improvement after twelve years. Barbara
Layne
reviews a website for us which features health information
from
Harvard Medical School.

Stroke
in New Zealand by David G Ray
------------------------------------------------------------
It is
now winter in New Zealand but the wonderful weather
continues.
Today my wife and I sat outside in the sun and
watched
the Waxeyes (small birds) attempt, with some success,
to
demolish all the fruit from our guava tree. We attract the
birdlife
to our property by feeding them with bread and other
tidbits
on our lawn. We do this every day at about noon and
every
day at about 11.30am the birds congregate about our
pear
tree waiting their lunch. We also have blackbirds,
sparrows
(by the hundreds it seems), and thrushes. Fantails
also
arrive but they never land on the grass, merely hover
above
the trees. We also have a couple of Little Blue Penguins
nesting
under our house. These flightless birds eat a diet of
fish
that they catch at night in the nearby harbour. They bring
them
back to their nests and this creates a strong smell of
rotting
fish sometimes, but in the interests of conservation,
we
don't mind the inconvenience. The local cats ignore them
or
cannot get into their burrows.
Our
Stroke Club is about to start another season of 6 monthly
meetings,
outings etc. In August (besides my 68th birthday) we
will
begin by hearing from an eye specialist. It is very
important,
as we get older, that we look after our eyes. The
older
we get the more we seem to read, watch television, watch
our
flowers or watch our grandchildren at play etc. The second
meeting
will see us enjoy a demonstration of oriental painting
and we
will be able to try it for ourselves. A physiotherapist
from
the local hospital is booked to talk to us on exercise.
Besides
these we will visit the gardens at Government House
(where
the Queen's representative lives) and later in the year
listen
to some entertainment following our lunch to celebrate
the
birthday of the Lower Hutt Stroke Club. As usual, in early
December,
our members will enjoy the Christmas lunch to
complete
our year.
At the
last meeting of our Stroke Club we heard our outgoing
President
give his Annual Report of activities. It had been a
full and
busy year and the programme organised by our
co-coordinator
had been very well received and enjoyed. One
aspect
that dismayed me a little, was the lack of response
from
members to volunteer for a stint on the committee.
Apparently
members are happy to come and enjoy each meeting
but are
most reluctant to help with the organisation.
Fortunately,
(or perhaps it is unfortunate) no one criticized
the
2000/1 committee for what had been organised or achieved.
I
wonder if this is a problem with other stroke clubs where
members
are willing to take but not give. I am reminded of the
words
of the late President Kennedy who said "Ask not what your
country
can do for you, rather ask what you can do for your
country."
One person did volunteer to come onto the committee
and
this person is full of constructive ideas.
So the
Lower Hutt Stroke Club begins another 12 months (until
June
2002) of activities designed to entertain and inform stroke
victims.
One thing I have found is that it is a wonderful place
to meet
people who have conquered adversity with hope and a
cheerful
heart.

Miracle
after Twelve Years, by Vicky Beard
------------------------------------------------------------
I just joined
your Stroke Group, and had to share a miracle.
After
12 Years Of a paralyzed arm, I got feeling back. I'm
back In
Occupational Therapy. Right now I'm in Intensive
Stretching
Therapy. I am also in an Antispacisity Brace for
my
hand, as my hand & arm were in the fetal position for 12
years.
I can lift my arm up, and touch my shoulder, and wiggle
two
fingers -- all in 1 month.
God
Bless

Web Site Review
by Barbara Layne
------------------------------------------------------------
This month’s website is www.intelihealth.com and it features
health information from Harvard Medical School. It
is an easy
site to use with a lot of interactive links. There
is the usual information pertaining to stroke overview, warning signs, and
resources, but then there are some wonderful interactive tools:
Blood Pressure
Interactive Diary
Harvard Symptom Scout
Harvard Tests & Procedures
Health Risk Report
The related topics deal with everything from Weight Management
to Caregivers. There is even a search engine to
use to search
Medical Literature.
The entire site deals with so many health issues and
concerns.
You can search for information that deals with Men’s
Health,
Women’s Health, Children’s Health, and Senior’s
Health. If
you or someone you know will be having a test or
procedure, you
can look it up and learn what to expect, what to do
to prepare,
and what the doctor can expect to learn.
I hope you get as much out of this website as I do.
This is
one that I use often. I hope you find it helpful and
informative.
See you in September!
