Editor’s Message, by Lin Wisman
------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to the April addition of StrokeNet. I hope you find
some useful information.
The article is which follows this one is a special invitation
for you to submit your biography. At the end of the Newsletter
you will find this month’s two featured readers. This is an
chance for each of you to share your personal story with
other readers.
Next there is an article by Frank Ruby explaining some of the
features of the stroke network websites. This is to help you
find additional info and take advantage of some of the
opportunities we offer. David Ray then contributes his monthly
article about Stroke in New Zealand. Rhonda Peterson’s
article on depression is next.
This month we have three reviews. Rev. Father Chris Hanes
reviews the Helping Hand, which is a great gadget for our many
readers who have lost the use of one hand. It holds the object
you wish to open. You use your good hand to open the lid. Michael
Roberts reviews Tai Chi. This ancient Chinese program has been
very helpful to him. Finally Barbara Layne reviews the website
The reviews are followed by two biographies: Henning J van Aswegen
and Rose Mary Buchanan. Finally there is an invitation to the
Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan’s Expo to be held in May.
Earlier this month I celebrated the fifth anniversary of my
stroke. I took the time to write down things that I am grateful
for. I quite easily came up with a list of 25. They varied from
help I received with medical care to the daily attention of my cat!
I would recommend making your own list. It is a great exercise. I
began each numbered statement with “I am grateful for...” I shared
it with a few relatives and friends who had helped me through the
process.
