In North America fall is fast approaching. The days (and nights) are nippier
and the trees are beginning to turn to lovely shades of red and yellow. As we
say goodbye to summer, those of you in the southern hemisphere say hello to
spring! Isn't earth a great place - somewhere someone is experiencing a
different part of the year!
Steve reports on several interesting new happenings including the new chat
schedule, addition of a service which scans daily for stroke info and a request
for photos. David Ray's announces that September was National Stroke month in
New Zealand. Rhonda shares an article commenting on family picnics. This is
followed by a booklet written by Robert Smith. In it Bob shares his stroke
experiences and his research. Then there is a list I created on the fifth
anniversary of my stroke six months ago sharing some of the many things I am
grateful for. Next you are introduced to the Eldercare. This organization
assists caregivers for elders. There is definite crossover between their
interests and ours. Be sure to visit their website. Barbara Layne reviews the
website of the Mayo Clinic. Finally you will find two bios. Julianne
Marken-Bentzen is Vice President Support for The Stroke Network. Stacie Greene
stroked three years ago at age 23.
Organization Highlights, by Steve Mallory
This month Steve brings everyone up to date on the changes in chat sessions.
Next he invites everyone to send a picture of themselves to be included in the
picture gallery on the website. Then he introduces a new partner, Eldercare
Online. Later in this newsletter you will read more about their organization and
find a link to their website.
Next he describes two new features on the website. A service which daily
scans online magazines and newspapers for information on strokes has been
acquired. New links have been added to survivor resources. Finally he talks of
the need for addition members of the Board of Directors.

with a Stroke, by David G. Ray |

Eldercare
Online |
 |
Recently the Stroke Network became aware of the
organization Eldercare Online. They have a web site, which is aimed at
caregivers for the elderly. The website includes information such as legal help,
finances and insurance, independent living, and family dynamics. It also
includes regular chats, both in general and covering specific issues such as
dementia. The website has information on such topics as government services,
medical research, Medicare, and choosing a nursing home.
The information is very helpful and the chance to talk to others who are also
in the role of elder caregiver is supportive. I only wish this resource had been
available when my family was faced with dealing with my mothers Alzheimer's
disease. This website gives the caregiver access to needed information and
provides a support network. We would encourage our readers to visit their site
at http://www.ec-online.net.

About
Us |
 |
What is The Stroke Network? Where did it come from? Who
are the people that work there? Read the FAQ if you would like to know.
Just with is FAQ? I've seen it on the Internet several times but I've never
understood what it stood for. What is FAQ and why does our organization have
these letters? FAQ is an acronym for Frequently Asked Questions. It's basically
questions that most people are going to ask if they want to know about your web
site and service.
Our organization has a FAQ in order to give you some background information
and insight into our organization. The FAQ is linked from virtually every single
page on our whole web site. If you scroll down the page and look on the left
column you will see a button with a question mark. Click on the button and you
will be hyperlinked to our FAQ web page.
You will learn about the formation of our organization and it's history. You
can find out who are our partners and learn about our basic policies. Most of
the frequently asked questions can be found here but if you have more please let
us know.
