  • Welcome to the October Issue of StrokeNet. Those of us at StrokeNet wish everyone a great fall. Steve opens this Newsletter by reporting on the annual Golf Fund Raiser which took place on October 1. Sharon-dale Stone shares information on Pediatric Stroke. Kathy Bosworth explores the issue of Caregiver Stress. David Ray reports on a talk on organic gardening at his Stroke Club.

    The annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser was held on October 1. Steve reports on its success. He announces the specifics of Rally Month, which is October. Be sure to read about it.

    In the second section the report talks about changes which are happening to the message board and chat room. Finally staff changes are announced and special recoginition is given.

    Pediatric Stroke, By Sharon-dale Stone
    Most people, who are part of The Stroke Network, are very aware that stroke can happen to those between 20-65. Some are not aware of stroke happening to those under 20. Pediatric Stroke is not only possible but is much more common then is generally known. Sharon stroked when she was 11, 37 years ago. In this article she shares statistics and some of the reasons for pediatric stroke.

Living in New York, she enjoys crocheting, remote control planes, and family; 10th: pepper7254 (50) Residing in Ohio, she lists her interests as photography, fishing and computers; 12th: sharondale (49) A resident of Ontario, Sharon stroked when she was 11.     23rd hoststephen (74) Stephen is Chat Host for The Stroke Network. He is also known on the message board and in chat as oldinky. Transplanted from Massachusetts, Stephen lives in Georgia. He likes computers, reading and classical music; 28th kmk1028 (48) Residing in Tennessee, kmk1028 is a survivor who enjoys reading, cooking, antiquing, dogs, cats, surfing the net, and playing online games; 29th DonG (50). Don lives in Manitoba. His interests are sports, playing golf, bowling, and curling.

    Bios: Penny Wohlford and Pam LeBlanc
    Penny stroked in 2002 while having a dressage lesson on a horse. Fortunately the horse sensed there was a problem. Penny still rides horses. She also skis and swims.

    Pam had her stroke 3 years ago after abusing cocaine for 15 years. She is now is college.

    Our Organization
    What is The Stroke Network? Where did it come from? Who are the people that work there? Read the FAQ if you would like to know.

    Just what is FAQ? I've seen it on the Internet several times but I've never understood what it stood for. What is FAQ and why does our organization have these letters? FAQ is an acronym for Frequently Asked Questions. It's basically questions that most people are going to ask if they want to know about your web site and service.

    Our organization has a FAQ in order to give you some background information and insight into our organization. The FAQ is linked from virtually every single page on our whole web site. If you scroll down the page and look on the left column you will see a button with a question mark. Click on the button and you will be hyperlinked to our FAQ web page.

    You will learn about the formation of our organization and it's history. You can find out who are our partners and learn about our basic policies. Most of the frequently asked questions can be found here but if you have more please let us know. The print version of this newsletter is available at the website.
