Vol 8, No 1
 January 2008
Greetings,

Happy New Year to everyone reading this newsletter. I hope this year brings you joy.

A few months ago someone posted on the Message Board, "My Stroke describes me. It does not define me." For each Stroke Survivor as well as family members classifying the stroke is important. May 2008 be a year where each of us finds a way to have stroke describe, not define.

We begin the year by highlighting an article written by Nancy Fiduk, the Celebrations Monitor for StrokeNet. Nancy is the mother of a young stroke survivor. In this article she addresses the question of when to help and when to let a survivor make their own way. The issue is an important one for both survivors and their families.

Steve Mallory shares the latest organization news. Chuck Hofvander returns from leave recovering from a seizure. Be sure to check out his article discussing his bike riding routine before his stroke and how his routine has changed.

Lin Mouat shares ways to deal with pain. If you thought meds were the only answer, be sure to read her article. Jean Guggenheimer reports on the latest stroke news in the media. Marty Arlen addresses New Year's questions.

Nancy Fiduk shares members' birthdays and anniversaries. Finally, this month we highlight the bios of four long term Stroke Network Members

Enjoy the January newsletter!
