Greetings,
Happy
July everyone. The weather in the US has been bizarre.
Hope the craziness has not caused too many problems for
you. It is bad enough being a stroke survivor. But, to
have to deal with bad weather is a call
beyond. We have been enjoying grilling
outside and the early summer produce from our garden.
The biggest problem is eating lettuce fast enough.
Last week I was again reminded of the
vulnerabilities left after a stroke. I was heading out
the door early one morning for a walk. As I was leaving
I remembered I did not have my cell phone, so I turned
around to head back for it.
My
mind was elsewhere, it was early morning and I was not
very happy with myself for not remembering. I fell. The
tiles in our entryway are hard and I had nothing to grab
to break my fall. My reflects are slower than they were
pre-stroke. I landed on the floor nose
down. Blood was coming from my nose. Both knees hurt.
The funny thing was that my sister heard me and came
running. She handed me one Kleenex, which was not
enough! When I tried to get up I discovered the palm on
my left hand was also sore. The long and short of it is
that my pride was hurt more than my body. But, it
reminded me take more care! This month
Steve Mallory updates us on organization news. Kathy
Saul provides us with an article on legal documents
which are important to consider. Chris DeWald introduces
us to the Brain Gym system of exercises. Lin Mouat
provides a list of resources. Jean
Guggenheimer reviews stroke news. Jan Johnson's story is
featured. Nancy Fiduk provides a listing of this month's
birthdays and stroke anniversaries. Enjoy the July newsletter.

Preparing for the
Future By Kathy Saul
Over the
years this newsletter has published several articles on
important legal documents. Kathy Saul updates the info
for our readers. It is important for
everyone, whether or not a member of the stroke family,
to be aware of what documents are needed in your
locality. Document names and even laws vary from state
to state and country to country.
Save yourself
and your family headaches by having all documents in
place. As my lawyer said "Some times I have to ask if
their relative can still sign their name." In other
words, don't wait! It is wise to check with
a lawyer in your area to be sure everything is in
order.
