Greetings,
Greetings to you as we head into the end of the
year. Summer is now officially over. It is still warm
here and we still have lots and lots of basil and
tomatoes. I have been making pesto and freezing. We have
lots of pesto!
All of you who are not US
citizens, please bear with me a minute. I would like to
take the opportunity to ask all US citizens to vote in
the presidential election.on on November 4. This is an
historic election that no one should miss.
The
first step is registering. Deadline and rules vary from
state to state. I live in Illinois and was able to find
all the rules online by typing vote Illinois into my
browser. Or, contact your local government. Another
place to get local information is from your library.
Many in the stroke family choose to vote
absentee. This avoids crowds and any other problems.
Check with your local government to find out exactly how
to sign up. In many states (but not all), the next best
thing to absentee voting is early voting. Again, check
with your local government. If you wait until Nov 4,
remember that by law the polling place must accommodate
disabilites.
This is not necessarily easy. At my
polling place there is one step. To avoid the step you
have two options. Both require someone who can negotiate
the step to ask for help. A guard will escort you to
another entrance. Or, a poll worker will bring a paper
ballot to your car. So check ahead.
After you
figure out how you are going to vote, be sure to
research so you know where the candidates stand. Pick 3
or 4 issues that you are passionate about. Then research
where each candidate stands. This will give you data to
make an informed decision.
