Vol 9, No 4
 April 2009
Greetings,

Stroke survivors can have a long uphill climb. Many have to learn to walk and talk again. It is not an easy task. It is now spring and warm weather is almost here. Congratulations to all for managing to make it through the long, cold, gray days. May your spring and summer be times when your stroke recovery accelerates.

This month's issue offers several interesting articles. It has been a number of years since we have published an article on Botox and Stroke. Kathy Saul researched the subject and reports. Last month Chris DeWald had emergency surgery. He found himself faced with the common problem of medical personnel not knowing his history.

Walt Kilcullen recently went on a trip to Europe. He wanted to find out how stroke care is different in Europe than in the US. Be sure to check out his interview with a neurologist in Prague. Lin Mouat tackles the issue "Responding to and Coping with Change." This is a subject which is important to everyone, whether or not a stroke survivor or caregiver.

Jean Guggenheimer reviews Stroke News for the month of March. Deb Theriault features Lenny Harrison as the Member Story this month. Finally, Nancy Fiduk lists the Member birthdays and stroke anniversaries we have on file.

Enjoy the April newsletter!

Flash Drive
By Chris DeWald

Chris recently had emergency surgery. His medical history was not only not available to the ER, but the info he provided the ER was not given to the floor nurse when he was admitted.

It is important that anyone giving you medical help knows all of your medical history. For many stroke survivors their history and current situation is not easily condensed. Chris provides one idea. Use a flash drive. Read his story and suggestions. Access his video.
