 May 2009
Greetings,

May is US Stroke Awareness month. It is a good time to remind ourselves of the signs of stroke. Read Kathy Saul's article. Share the list with others.

Each year I struggle with how to be a part of Stroke Awareness month. Whether it is finding a new way to improve your recovery, talking (or emailing) friends and family, writing an article for your local paper, or joining with groups in your area, do it. And pat yourself on the back for being a part of the stroke family.

We had snow three times in April. It was "spring" snow so it did not last long. I know some of you had a lot more than we did. The sun is shining, I'm walking most every day for an hour, and life is ticking along.

Earlier in the month we took a long weekend in Wisconsin to visit with my niece and her family. It had been a while since I was out of town. I was pleased to notice my continued progress. It was far easier to get around (stairs were much easier), the noise at the restaurant did not bother me, I actually enjoyed meeting new people, etc. Healing never stops!

Hope you are having a good change of seasons!

This month we highlight two young stroke survivors. Rachel Spiess, who stroked at 22, wa recently featured in her local newspaper. A link is provided to read the article. Amanda Horne's Member Story is featured. She stroked at 18.

Also in this issue...
Chris DeWald shares info on Insulin Pens. Lin Mouat writes about Anniversaries. Jean Guggenheimer reports on Stroke News. Nancy Fiduk shares birthdays and stroke anniversaries we have on file.

Enjoy the May newsletter!
