Greetings,
Stroke survivors often battle weight gain.
Usually survivors are less mobile and eating may be one of the few
things they can still do.
This month I was pleasantly surprised when a
friend of mind sent me a newspaper article with eating advice.
Waistlines have been a taboo subject for a long time. Only those who
want to sell something (pills to help loss weight, weight loss
programs, and so on) seem to talk about it. I hope things are changing.
The advice included data I received from a
nutritionist last year. Easy stuff, but not what I was taught growing
up. Ideas include: eat more vegetables (1/2 your dinner plate should be
plain veggies - no sauces), drink water, choose lean meats and fish,
eat more fiber rich foods, eat less and exercise more, etc. In short,
change the way you eat. Easier said than done!
Have you succeeded in losing weight? How did
you do it? Are you trying to lose, but finding it difficult? What are
the problems you are having?
Lin Mouat has
submitted her resignation to The Stroke Network. Her column "Fuel
for the Journey" has been an integral part of the newsletter for
several years. Her insights will be missed. We wish her the best in her
new endeavors.
Enjoy the March Newsletter!
