It's August. Celebrate
the dog days of summer by reading some stroke stories. There are three
in this issue of StrokeNet.
●
Staff Spotlight features Marie Claire Dube
●
Milestones is a reflection of fifteen years of stroke recovery
● Stories of Stroke Recovery shares a website.
Also in this
issue:
In

Treatment and Recovery read about stroke therapies not yet a part of
traditional stroke therapy. The Juggling
Caregiver tackles the issue of Controlling Seizures. Speak No Evil
raises the issue of Alternative Medicine.

reviewed. Ten Ways.. discusses
ways to make a doctor's appointment more worthwhile. Be sure to
check out Member Celebration to see who has registered their birthday

Barbara Collard
Even
under the most challenging odds, patients can make remarkable,
unexpected recoveries.
Barbara
Collard is one such patient. After suffering a severe stroke in July
2008, she has made a recovery that would astound even the most seasoned
of physicians.
Collard
suffered a serious brain stem stroke, a deadly condition that affects
the blood supply to areas of the brain vital to the body's basic life
support functions. Initial scans had indicated that this part of her
brain was severely damaged, but some patients can recover neurologic
function in the part of the brain if blood flow is re-established
quickly.
Collard's seemingly miraculous recovery reminds physicians that
standard protocols of therapy must be viewed in combination with
individual patient circumstances.
