Greetings,
In my part of the world they say "March
comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb." I look forward to
spring!
This month there are several articles which
give new ideas and/or more information, which you may be able to use.
Walt writes an article about Telerehabilitation, using communication tools for
therapy. This is not in addition to therapy in a hospital or
rehabilitation center, but therapy done totally by telephone, e-mail,
or other electronic communication devices.
Claudia finally bought an e-reader. She reports
in The Juggling
Caregiver on its functionality. David reviews a book which explains how
we read. Erin had an accident a month ago. She and J.J. both write
about Role Reversal in their column, Speak No Evil.
Dean discovered an article which explains
different methods to rehab gait. Member, Philip Hanaburgh's
book "Are You Ready" is reviewed by Lin. A notice about an
Adapted Sailing Program in New York is included.
Be sure to check out organization news in
Organization Highlights and the celebration list to see who has
registered their birthday or stroke anniversary.
Enjoy the March newsletter!

Rehabilitation after a Stroke

Telerehab
By Walt Kilcullen
Walt researched telehabilitation,
rehab which is accomplished using the telephone, e-mail, or other
electronic communication devices.
The idea is not that the patient
attends outpatient therapy or has a therapist
come to the home. Rather, the rehab is a completed entirely through
telecommunication.

E-Readers
By Claudia Warner
Claudia, who is a reader, did not
initially think that an e-reader was a good idea. She enjoyed the
experience of books. But, carrying large books pushed her to have
another look.
As of Valentine's day her family
has an e-reader. Her husband, the survivor, loves it. He is not only
reading more, but is using it for therapy.
If you don't have an e-reader, find
out about the Warner's experience. It you do have an e-reader you will
find yourself nodding. I know I did.
