Welcome to the August issue of StrokeNet, the newsletter of The Stroke Network.

 

This month we are introducing a new columnist. Angela Hager, a survivor since 2012, will be writing a column, "Keeping Up the Fight." She will be exploring the many ways that survivors deal with depression.

 

In this issue, in "The Juggling Caregiver," Claudia writes about ways to endure the heat. Since his stroke J.J. has struggled with writing. In "Speak No Evil," Erin and J.J. talk about the struggle of writing when you have aphasia

 

In Dancing with Stroke, Jim contributes his experiences with depression. Angela introduces her column, "Keeping Up the Fight," by writing about depression as an ongoing battle.

 

David tackles the subject of emotional lability, which is a problem for many survivors

Joe Perino is featured in Member Stories.

Stroke and Emotional Liability

There is Hope

Do you or your loved one experience inappropriate emotional reactions? Maybe an emotional reaction is much stronger than the situation warrants. 

 

Maybe it is just embarrassing. Maybe it is dangerous. This condition is very common with stroke survivors. The good news is that there are strategies which help. David explains.

Before his stroke in October 2008, Joe Perino was a truck driver. Since his stroke Joe has recreated his life.

 

Although no longer a truck driver he is kept busy rehabilitating himself and helping other stroke survivors.
