Greetings,
Welcome to the May issue of StrokeNet, the newsletter of The Stroke Network.
May
is Stroke Awareness month in the U.S. It is a good time to remind
ourselves of the F.A.S.T test to determine if someone has had a stroke.
Use this simple F.A.S.T. test to check for signs of stroke in your loved one:
FACE: Ask your loved one to smile. Does one side of their face droop?
ARMS: Ask you loved one to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
SPEECH: Ask you loved one to repeat a simple phrase. Does their speech sound slurred or strange?
TIME: If you observe any of these signs, it's time to call 9-1-1.
As the stroke family knows, time is extremely important. Tell your friends!
Walt
introduces several new drugs which are currently being tested. In The
Struggling Caregiver, Claudia shares how the "Dummy" books have helped
Wes.
Jim
reflects, in Dancing with Stroke, on the issue of shifting social
relationships after stroke. An article on Botox and Stroke, which is of
interest to many, is reprinted. Lin Wisman is in the Staff Spotlight
this month.
Be
sure to check out Organization Highlights to read what is new with our
organization. Read Member Celebrations to see who has registered their
birthday or stroke anniversary.
